Purpose of Activity
To enhance the knowledge nurses have managing ventilated patients.Learning Objectives
After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:
- Describe normal respiratory physiology and oxygen supply and demand.
- Understand the indications for supplemental oxygen and delivery devices.
- Identify the goals of noninvasive ventilation and available modes.
- Understand available modes of mechanical ventilation, and nursing care of the mechanically ventilated patient, including appropriate responses to ventilator alarms.
