Purpose of Activity

To enhance the knowledge nurses have managing ventilated patients.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Describe normal respiratory physiology and oxygen supply and demand.
  2. Understand the indications for supplemental oxygen and delivery devices.
  3. Identify the goals of noninvasive ventilation and available modes.
  4. Understand available modes of mechanical ventilation, and nursing care of the mechanically ventilated patient, including appropriate responses to ventilator alarms.

Learning Outcomes

A majority of the participants will demonstrate knowledge of ventilator management by achieving a passing score on the post-test.
