This learning activity may be used by nurses to review for the medical surgical specialty certification from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN), which grants the credential Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN®), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), which grants the credential Registered Nurse-Board Certified (MEDSURG-BC™). It provides an overview of the hematologic section of the medical-surgical certification exam based on the exam blueprint. Nurses preparing for the certification exam may find this activity helpful, in addition to the medical-surgical certification review question bank.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. describe the significance of assessment and management of hematologic disorders.
  2. explain three types of blood cancers, including signs and symptoms, treatment and diagnosis, and nursing considerations for each.

Learning Outcomes

By the conclusion of this activity, a majority of participants will demonstrate knowledge in nursing care involving the hematologic system by achieving a passing score on the posttest.
