Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Describe the components of the endocannabinoid system and its role in pain processing pathways.
  2. Distinguish demonstrated sex differences in the endocannabinoid system and the impact on vulnerability to chronic pain and analgesic effects.
  3. Summarize findings from a pilot study on plasma endocannabinoids and cannabimimetic fatty acid derivatives in men and women with acute and chronic low back pain.

Learning Outcomes

Seventy-five percent of participants will demonstrate knowledge of the endocannabinoid system and its effect on various bodily processes, including appetite, sleep, pain, and inflammation; and a pilot study examining it as a potential target for chronic pain treatment by achieving a minimum score of 70% on the outcomes-based posttest.
