After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Define terms and concepts related to transgender persons that could reflect assumptions and biases held by healthcare providers, including Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs).
  2. Apply principles of gender-affirming care to the care of a transgender sexual assault survivor.
  3. Identify results from a survey in Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Centres in Ontario, Canada related to SANE nurse training on meeting the needs of transgender survivors of sexual assault.

Learning Outcomes

Seventy-five percent of participants will demonstrate competency in clinical reasoning regarding how Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) should approach the care of transgender persons who have survived sexual assault by achieving a minimum score of 70% on the outcomes-based posttest.
