Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. List the most frequently reported reasons for hospital readmission following ileostomy or colostomy creation.
  2. Identify predictors of 30- and 60-day hospital readmission after surgery for ostomy creation.
  3. Select strategies to help mitigate the risk of complications and subsequent hospital readmission following ostomy creation surgery.

Learning Outcomes

Seventy-five percent of participants will demonstrate knowledge of predictors of 30- and 60-day hospital readmission in patients undergoing ileostomy or colostomy creation by achieving a minimum score of 70% on the outcomes-based posttest.
