Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Describe the pathophysiology of neurogenic shock.
  2. Explain issues related to bradycardia in a patient with an acute SCI.
  3. Identify an appropriate induction agent for intubation of a patient with a cervical spine injury.
  4. Apply knowledge of neurogenic shock to the identification and management of a patient with this condition.
  5. Select a medication for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention in a patient with an SCI.

Learning Outcomes

Seventy-five percent of participants will demonstrate competency in clinical reasoning regarding acute traumatic spinal cord injuries (SCIs) by achieving a minimum score of 70% on the outcomes-based posttest.
