Activity Steps

Description

By participating in this activity you will earn CE Credit.

This issue contains the following articles:
  • A New Force-Activated Separation Device for the Prevention of Peripheral Intravenous Restarts
  • Accuracy of the Data of Biochemical Parameters in Blood Collected Above the Infusion Insertion Site
  • Influence of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters with Proximal Valves on Red Blood Cell Hemolysis During Transfusion
  • Patient Experience with Vascular Access Management Informs Satisfaction with Overall Hospitalization Experience

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Compare the rate of peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) complications requiring a restart using the force-activated separation device (FASD) compared with the current PIVC standard of care (SOC).
  2. Identify variables that affect the accuracy of hematologic data obtained from peripheral blood sampling.
  3. Analyze methods and results from a study on the biochemical parameters in blood collected above the infusion insertion site.
  4. Analyze results from a study on the influence of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) with proximal valves on red blood cell hemolysis during transfusion.
  5. Identify how patients' experience with vascular access management informed their satisfaction with their overall hospitalization experience for cohorts of patients in Singapore and the Philippines.

Learning Outcomes

Seventy-five percent of participants will demonstrate knowledge of current issues affecting infusion nursing practice by achieving a minimum score of 70% on the outcomes-based posttest.
