Activity Steps

Description

By participating in this activity you will earn CE Credit.

This issue contains the following articles:
  • Role of the Infusion Nurse: Caring for the Family/Lay Caregiver of Older Adults
  • Standardizing Preoperative Evaluation for Pediatric Central Venous Access: A Care Algorithm to Improve Safety
  • Impact of an Educational Program on Nurses' Performance in Providing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter Care for Neonates
  • Subcutaneous Versus Intravenous Rehydration in Hospitalized Older Adults: A Meta-Analysis
  • Enzyme Replacement Therapy for Lysosomal Storage Diseases

Purpose of Activity

To provide infusion nurses with information to increase their knowledge about current issues affecting infusion nursing practice.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Describe impending tipping points of caregiver burden and compassion fatigue before they occur and offer solutions for how nurses can help caregiving families identify them and access additional supportive services.
  2. Explain how a multidisciplinary team developed, implemented, and analyzed a care algorithm to standardize preoperative screening before pediatric central venous access device (CVAD) placement.
  3. Summarize the results and limitations of a study conducted to evaluate the performance of nurses in adhering to current practice guidelines and standards for neonates with peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs).
  4. Discuss the results of a meta-analysis conducted to compare the effectiveness of subcutaneous versus intravenous (IV) fluid administration to reverse mild to moderate dehydration in hospitalized older adults.
  5. Describe the two enzyme replacement therapy agents used to treat the most common types of lysosomal storage disease - Gaucher disease and Fabry disease.
