Purpose of Activity

To provide registered professional nurses with information to increase their knowledge about current issues affecting emergency nursing practice.

Learning Objectives/Outcomes

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Evaluate to what degree the skill of commercial tourniquet (CTQ) application is retained 6 months after participation in a Stop the Bleed class.
  2. Outline features of several early warning scoring systems for critically ill patients, including a system for predicting the prognosis of patients with acute pancreatitis (AP).
  3. Evaluate whether Spanish video discharge instructions (VDI) added to standard written/oral discharge instructions (WODI) would result in improved knowledge and satisfaction among Spanish-speaking caregivers of children discharged from the emergency department, compared with WODI alone.
  4. Identify patient factors and barriers that contribute to nonurgent ED visits.
  5. Summarize the transcultural health practices of a sample of emergency nurses who work with Indigenous peoples in Quebec, Canada.
