Purpose of Activity

To provide ED nurses with information to increase their knowledge about current issues affecting emergency nursing practice.

Learning Objectives/Outcomes

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the use of the Triage Algorithm for Psychiatric Screening (TAPS) to rule out acute medical illness in patients who present to the emergency department with psychiatric chief complaints.
  2. Outline the use of a difficult venous access (DVA) team to address patients with DVA.
  3. Evaluate the use of a first-nurse to decrease door-to-electrocardiogram (ECG) times for patients presenting to the emergency department with symptoms suggestive of acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
  4. Discuss the use of an ED Telehealth Express Care system for low-acuity patients.
