Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Describe the effects of obesity on pregnancy and fetal/neonatal outcomes.
  2. Outline patient counseling on the effects of bariatric surgery on pregnancy and fetal/neonatal outcomes.
  3. Explain special considerations when taking care of patients who have had bariatric surgery during the prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum periods.

Learning Outcomes

Seventy-five percent of participants will demonstrate knowledge of special considerations necessary when caring for patients who have undergone bariatric surgery during the preconception, prenatal, intrapartum, or postpartum periods by achieving a minimum score of 70% on the outcomes-based posttest.
